The Leprechaun Trap

Did you know that on the night before St. Patrick's Day, leprechauns can sneak into your school or house and do naughty things? Like make a big mess and move your furniture!?!

Delaney and I were unaware of this phenomenon until last year when she got to school on St. Patrick's Day and discovered in the middle of the night a leprechaun broke into her class room and made a GIANT mess. This mess caused such a stir, Delaney has talked about the naughty leprechaun all year. So her class decided to be prepared this year and to build a leprechaun trap.


They spent all last Monday working on their leprechaun trap and they devised this little beauty...

This is a leprechaun trap, designed and built by 4 and 5 year old kids. It has a net, rope, bucket, basket and colander along with some green crayons and gold coins, fresh flowers, and brussels sprouts that are to be used to lure the leprechaun into the trap. Delaney's class left school on Monday feeling pretty sure that the leprechaun wouldn't break into their class room and mess it up again this year, thanks to their awesome trap.



Well imagine our surprise to wake up this morning to discover that the leprechaun broke into our house last night!!! And this leprechaun had the nerve to leave a mess! He took all of our couch cushions off. I guess next year, well have to build a trap for own house...




When Delaney woke up this morning and saw the mess, she couldn't believe it. It's not very often a naughty leprechaun breaks into your house and makes a mess. Luckily, she volunteered to clean it up right away.


And when we were cleaning we discovered a little surprise. The leprechaun left her a note telling her to be good today. And it also said that he knew she would be a good little girl and help clean up his mess so he left her a "Green" DVD as a reward.

After the shock having the leprechaun break into our house this morning, Delaney felt pretty confident he wouldn't be able to mess her classroom up again because of the leprechaun trap she built with her classmates.

But imagine her surprise when she got to school and discovered her teacher forgot to put the trap out! The leprechaun messed up her classroom, again!

He took out all the toys...

And left little green footprints all over the place!




Luckily, Delaney and her classmates got busy cleaning up the leprechaun's mess. Can you even believe this is Delaney on her hands and knees and scrubbing the floor with a baby wipe!?! (And please just ignore the fact her headband is falling down and covering her eyes!)

I sure wish she would clean like that at home!!!

After Delaney's class cleaned up the mess, they were determined to keep the leprechaun out of their classroom for the rest of St. Patrick's Day. So when they went out for recess they made sure to set up their leprechaun trap.

And when Delaney's class got back from recess they found the leprechaun trap tipped over and they were convinced they had finally caught a leprechaun...

He even sampled the brussels sprouts they left out for him.


But when the flipped the trap over all they found was some GOLD.

Maybe next year they will have better luck catching the leprechaun.
